Welcome Back to Fo Guang Shan

The Founding Story of Fo Guang Shan — Bamboo Garden Lodge
As Fo Guang Shan welcomed its 10th founding anniversary, the number of devotees grew rapidly. I wanted to find a place where they could receive Buddhist education and participate in training and seminars. To make this possible, we needed classrooms as well as facilities for accommodation and dining. So, following the construction of the Pilgrim’s Lodge, I built the “Fo Guang Shan Devotee Seminar” in the area known as “Bamboo Garden”.
Even before Fo Guang Shan was established, this entire mountainside was known as “Bamboo Garden.” After Fo Guang Shan was built, we used “Fo Guang Shan” as our public name. However, the local residents felt that we had erased the name “Bamboo Garden.” Out of respect for their sentiment, we named the building “Fo Guang Shan Devotee Seminar” as “Bamboo Garden” as well. This gesture brought joy and appreciation to the local residents.
